The Best Graphic Card for your Budget

April 15th, 2008 by melvynrobertcarroll

Don’t know which graphic card to buy? But you don’t know how to see the technical huhuhaha and can’t make up your mind?? Don’t you wish someone will just tell you which to buy?

I’m here to tell you which Graphic card to buy…depending on how much budget you have.

I would recommend Brands such as LEADTEK, MSI, Galaxy, Sapphire because they have reasonable prices. So here is the list you should follow…..my conclusion comes from PRICE VS PERFORMANCE.

3870_2

Picture taken from Sapphire Site at www.sapphiretech.com

1. ATI’s 3870XT 512MB DDR4 (non-OC)

Reasons :
This is the TOP of my list because,

The price is GOOD for only RM689.00 You’ll be able to play any games you want. And is almost as good as the Nvidia’s 8800GT OC version you won’t actually know the differences in performance unless your a computer freak like me.

I would like to recommend the Sapphire Brand. For their good price.

2. Nvidia’s 8800GT 512MB DDR3

Reasons:
This is a really good graphic card the only reason it’s 2nd on my list is because of it’s price. It’s more or less RM100.00 more then the ATI’s 3870. The Price RM729.00-890.00 depending on the Brand of which you buy. According to most reviews its faster by 7-9 FPS (Frames per second) then the 3870.

Recommended Brand LEADTEK (because i tested it and using it) & The ZOTAC AMP Version if you have a little more extra cash. Considered by many to be a very good OC’ed by Manufacturer . And Don’t forget Galaxy for its quality and good price RM729.00.

3. Nvidia’s 9600GT 512Mb DDR3

Reasons:
The New 9600GT its a little weak then the 3870 & 8800GT. When i said a little i mean a little. The price of this Graphic card has also drawn me to it once or twice.
For only RM559-650.00 i would say its a very good deal.

Recommended Brands would be Galaxy.

4. ATI’s 3850 256MB DDR3

Reasons:
Reason it beats the 8600GTS & GT hands down. And for some reason no shops are selling much of the 8600GTS version for market reasons. The only problem is the price. RM570-650 is not gonna attract a lot of ppl since they would rather go for the 9600GT for that price. The only reason its at my number 4 spot is the performance againest the weaker cards. Many will find it unreasonable to buy since the 9600GT is here to out sales this card.

Recommended Brand Sapphire. Because currently its cheaper among other brands. At RM570.00

5. 8600GT 256Mb DDR3

Reasons:
Very budget Graphic card for around RM299-370. The price shows why its here. You be able to play latest games at Medium or Low graphics.

Recommended Brands Galaxy, LEADTEK, MSI, ZOTAC, GIGABYTE, ASUS.

Anything other graphic cards other then the above you should get the 8500GT, 2400, 3450 cards cause there is little or no difference between them and all at RM150-200.00.

FAQ 2

January 15th, 2008 by melvynrobertcarroll

Question 1
My processor Fan is so loud. Why?

Answer:
It’s usually the computer setting the fan at a high speed to cool down your processor. It means the processor is just getting too hot. If the fan is always loud, check how hot your room is. If it’s really hot, it would be wise to cool down the room or move the computer to a cooler room.

If this does not fix the problem, and the fan is still loud, it would would possibly mean something is wrong with it. Possibly its nearing it’s end. And will get weaker slowly.

Fan’s usually has a life span of 20,000 to 50,000 hours. But the more harder the fan works the shorter it’s life span.

Question 2
My internet is slow (ADSL/DSL) Why is it slow?

Answer:
This is a question that a lot of people do not understand. I have many experiences with this and many people blame us computer technicians for slow speed. Saying we sold them a slow DSL modem and ask us in a threatening way “What are YOU gonna do about it?”

ADSL modems are all the same. The only difference between them is the BRANDS & QUALITY, and has nothing to do with the speed of the internet.

Please consult the Service Provider. This is the people involve with STREAMYX (Malaysia Services Provider for ADSL and monopolize which means their the only one allowed to sell wired ADSL service to customers in Malaysia)

An Example case in Miri, Sarawak.

Certain areas in Miri, the DSL line is really bad and keep disconnecting. 2 of these areas are SABERKAS, Near Miri Airport. This areas have bad connections and my friends who are in this areas are still complaining till these day. This is maybe due to OLD telephone cables.

However the 2nd case is to turn off you modem and turn it back on. If your in areas like Lutong and onwards to Desa Indah. You simply require to get the right IP number for the best connection.

Other then these 2 cases I humble ask you to call your Service Provider. Please don’t blame your technicians for slow connections, If its still connected to the internet and surfing is slow then it’s the service provider. If you can’t connect for more then 4 days call your services provider and ask if your account is working and if it’s working then its probably the modem malfunction. Then you call your technicians.

Question 3

My Computer is getting slower. Help?

Answer:
You’ve been using your pc for months and it’s slowly getting slower. This might mean that your computer might be getting clustering up. You deleted all the useless stuff you say? That’s not how it works. When I say its getting clustering up I mean the OS is (Operating System example : Windows, Linux etc..).

Solution is simple. Use the DISKCLEANUP to clear some space. But for better results for your system. I recommend you use CCLEANER, but please just use the Cleaner & Issues option for cleaning. Do not do any other things if your not sure what your doing.

No Money? Want to own a Computer?

January 14th, 2008 by melvynrobertcarroll

A lot of people want to own their own computer. But they have to little muchos (money) to afford a complete set of their very own. You want 24/7 access at anytime any day.
It’s not gonna be free ofcoz… Your gonna have to wait awhile.

This is my first PC, i can’t recall what year it was. At the time this was nearly high end.
Pc_3AMD 64 3500+
MSI K8N
6600GT
ICUTE casing
1Gb DDR rams

Everything else was onboard (means everything else was build in into the motherboard)

Now here is how i was able to afford it.
I got the motherboard first. held it for 5 months while i saved my muchos (money).
In that 5 months i was able to save every little penny. Still a student i had to wash 2 cars, push our lawnmower to another house to cut grass (friends laugh at me as i was pushing) and worked in a computer store for RM200 a month.

5 months x 100 = RM500.00 (without adding the extra cash i earned on the side)
Which was enough for me to get a few other parts…like ram & casing. (Remember i was working at computer store to get a little discount) I used the other RM100 for going out with friends haha. ok so i didn’t save EVERY penny.

I got the graphic card from a guy in KL which was selling colourful branded graphic card…i was trying to sell his stuff and earn a little extra, which i did but not many and used that money to get one for myself. ( At this time i wasn’t working at the computer store anymore, i resigned cause my grades was failing.)

Rams i started off with 512MB which was enough for gaming at the time. (used money from work) & harddisk was an old one i took out from an old computer (freebies)

Long story short i got each part as i worked. I got the casing at a PC fair cheap sale for RM250.00.

Most hardest one was getting my Processor. It cost me RM1200.00 ( I think i got hussled that time, still young & stupid) but it was one of the best at the time. If i recalled i used some of my saving to add a little extra….i wanted the best haha.

Ok so the processor was damn expensive. But the other parts wasn’t so In 5-6 months i got my first pc. My very own.

I then used it for 1-2 years and sold all parts to some kuching guy and graphic card to a kid in Johor & casing i sold to my cousin for RM80.00 ( He was my cousin, sell cheap) I then used that money and added extra for a new one and better one and the cycle continues.

Note : Story Might not be entire accurate, but the point is, if you save enough and go slow, you’ll probably gonna get what you want eventually. And the blue shiny fan i got that 1+ year later.
